Yednist dance company BIO

The mission of the Yednist Dance Company is to honour the enduring tradition of Ukrainian dance in Canada as the foundation of its art form with a fusion of new elements of movement, themes, and acrobatics. Yednist, which means “unity”, carries on the tradition of Canadian-Ukrainian dance, exploring influences from other eastern European/slavic dance styles as well as sword fighting and modern dance. With a unique blend of grace, emotion and athleticism, Yednist is Ukrainian Dance like you have never seen before!

The company was formed in 2016 by Graham Currie (senior producer, former president, and alumnus of the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company) and Matt Alan Currie (Cheremosh Alumnus and Technical Director of the Varscona Theatre) as the urge to take their creativity in their own direction persisted. All dancers are exceptionally skilled, having received a high level of training as the company is comprised exclusively of current and former members of Cheremosh. Having the good fortune of rehearsing in Cheremosh’s world-class dance studio with a cast that includes current Cheremosh dancers, the Yednist Dance Company, owes recognition to the Cheremosh Ukrainian Dance Company for making its art possible.
